Short Introduction
5eTools is an open-source website (Licensed under the MIT license), which is designed to be used by anyone who wishes to curate the content of their D&D 5e books in a simplified digital manner, (online, on their local computers or ... if you're a bit of coder ... customized on their own private or public websites for their and their player's use.)
The site is developed with the intent of helping provide an easier means to search and work with the resources users already own IRL (in real life). Allowing a player or DM to carry all their books and supplements on their laptop even if they do not have internet access wherever they are.
If you are developer, please see this page if you wish to contribute to a project.
Where to start...
You're likely here because you've found the site, want to do "x" with it, and want to know how to do it ... or you tried to do "x" with and its not working.
So, for that let's directly link to where you may want to go...
History
- The site arose from the primordial pit that is 4chan, and then was nearly lost were it not for Astranauta, who kept a copy of what had been gathered together, and then the current lead dev Giddy took over, along with help from DBAWiseMan, 5egmegaanon, aeosynth, grxanon, Temp345, Azzurite, Buluphont and several others ... with the support of Lord Dusk.
Code
- There remains two means to get the code; the public Github (which is not the most updated code -- it is, however, a place for persons to fork the code, report bugs (though .. you should use the Troubleshooting BEFORE attempting to do such) or a location to make pull requests with fixes or additions you've made.
- OR
- The current source code is available as a zipped archive on the distribution page across three zipped files.
- Basic (the site, but requires internet access for various elements)
- Developer (the site and its development files; which as a result will work offline)
- Support Files (images. which you'll need if you're attempting to run the site offline)
- The current source code is available as a zipped archive on the distribution page across three zipped files.
- (all of which is covered in the installation guide.)
- As previously mentioned the site and its code are opensource and released under the MIT license. Which (paraphrased) means you are welcome to use it, modify it, distribute it, and build from it.
- It is requested that if you do develop new versions or features that you fork from the Github and that you modify this page with a link to your own project.
Content
- The site draws upon a number of resources, and by default, all RAW (Rules as Written / Official) content is loaded when the site loads.
- We should address that now.
- The site CAN be used improperly. The content is there, and if you don't own a copy of the content - you should use the Blacklist to limit the content that you own or have legitimate access to. A link to where you can obtain legal copies of each resource has been provided so that you can better support WoTC and the individual content developers.
The site provides all RAW content (Officially released content) which currently means it contains the following:

A (not so) Dirty Secret
There are two URLs with which to access the site.
- 5eTools With Ads http://5e.tools
- and WITHOUT Ads http://noads.5e.tools
Both use the same content, features etc. One, however, has ads. We prefer use of the one with Ads, as that helps pay hosting costs, but you are welcome to NOT use that URL should you wish to, and would rather support the site directly.
